News

Consultation

We are currently carrying out a consultation with all volunteers about their volunteering experience with Independent Advocacy and what further support we can offer. We appreciate all contributions and constructive feedback and will post outcomes once all views have been gathered.

Peer Support Groups

These groups are an opportunity for volunteers in their local areas to meet with their peers and discuss any issue relating to volunteering. We currently have groups covering the following areas: Blairgowrie, Dunkeld, Kinross, Crieff/Auchterarder, Comrie and Perth. At these groups in 2011 we will be looking at the Independent Advocacy Codes of Practice and Principles and Standards. We also intend to cover issues such as Lone Working, Boundaries & Dilemmas, Conflict Resolution and Non-Instructed Advocacy.

Ongoing Training

Alongside our two half day trainings a year we provide other training sessions as appropriate and relevant to the work of Independent Advocates. These have included Makaton training from Speech & Language Department and Dementia Awareness. Sometimes we are able to access external training provided by other organisations such as Welfare Rights and the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance.
